In Spring 2015, the National Cancer Institute (NCI) intends to announce the promotion of a new initiative by publishing a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) to solicit applications for oncology co-clinical imaging research resources.
Co-clinical trials are defined as parallel or sequential trials of combination therapy in patients and in mouse and human-in-mouse models of appropriate genotypes to represent the patients.
The FOA will be designed to meet the need to establish best practices for quantitative imaging methods and imaging protocols that are applied to both mouse and human-in-mouse models. These imaging methods are further referred to as co-clinical imaging in this planned FOA. The research resources are expected to improve the correlation of results from mouse models with prospective and/or retrospective clinical trial data. The clinical goals are to support effective mouse/human co-clinic therapy and prevention trials.
NCI has issued this notice of intent to provide potential applicants with lead-time to start the process of forming teams, building collaborations, and planning responsive applications.
The FOA is expected to be published in Spring 2015 with an expected application due date of Fall 2015.
This FOA will utilize cooperative agreements with the U24 (Resource-Related Research Projects) activity code.
The overall aims of the FOA are to develop web accessible research resources for co-clinical imaging with imaging protocols, archived image data and software tools, etc. and to encourage best practices for the implementation of quantitative imaging methods and imaging protocols on commercially supported imaging platforms, in which the clinical trial methods are used as the reference method.
